During the week of Feb. 11-17, Hawaii Island police arrested 32 motorists for DUI. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents. Two were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 18; South Hilo, seven; Puna, four; Ka‘u, North Hilo and South Kohala, one each.
So far this year, there have been 151 DUI arrests compared to 139 during the same period last year, an increase of 8.6 percent.
There have been 117 major accidents so far this year compared to 155 during the same period last year, a decrease of 24.5 percent.
To date, there have been two official traffic fatalities, the same number as of this time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
