Destynee Carvalho hit a three-run home and Tehani Epenesa collected three hits and struck out 12 on Wednesday as Honokaa beat Ka’u 17-3 in its BIIF softball opener.
Aulii Meyer hit two doubles and drove in three runs and Natasha Molina also doubled twice for the Dragons, who scored nine runs in the first inning.
Epenesa went all five innings in the TKO, allowing seven hits and a walk.
Carvalho finished 2 for 3 with a walk, four RBIs and three runs scored, Waiehu Kauahi-Raquel was 2 for 3, including an RBI triple, and Ceelyn Gali-Lucero hit a two-run single.
Kaiao Emmsley, Cece Silva-Kamei and Chaunalisa Velez each had two hits for the Trojans (1-1). Shailani Vierra pitched an inning and took the loss.

Anna Medeiros homered in the first game and doubled twice in the second game, and Andi Uemura secured wins on both ends of a doubleheader the Wildcats swept in Puna.
Medeiros finished a combined 4 for 5 with four RBIs. In the opener, Erin Bates hit a double and a triple, driving in four and scoring three times, and Magedlynn Anuntak and Uemura each swatted three hits with a double and three RBIs.
Uemura pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and followed that up with a five-inning shutout, striking out seven in a two-hitter. She added another double at the plate.
Staysia Hoomanu was the losing pitcher in both games for the Daggers (0-5), though she struck out eight in the opener. Kamalani Santos was 2 for 2 with an RBI for Pahoa in the first game.
Baseball
Canen Perreira struck out eight in four innings Tuesday, allowing two hits, and Taj Vera Cruz doubled and drove in three as host Honokaa won its opener, 15-0 against Ka’u.
Nalu Satkofsky was the losing pitcher, striking out three in two innings.
