BIIF: Kamehameha pitchers stingy as expected

Through three games against BIIF Division II baseball competition, Kamehameha’s pitching staff has allowed just two runs.

Breaden Coloma worked three innings Monday against Kohala, and Brock Malani and Kalia Agustin each added a scoreless inning of relief as the Warriors won 15-1 in a TKO in Keaau.

The first three batters in the lineup for Kamehameha (3-0) combined to go 8 for 10. Rydge Ishii singled twice in the fourth as Kamehameha (3-0) scored eight runs, finishing 3 for 4 with four runs scored and two RBIs. Tai Atkins was 3 for 4 from the top of the lineup with three runs scored, and Dustin Asuncion was 2 for 3. Zakaia Michaels hit a triple.

Aukea Kaaekuahiwi took the loss for the Cowboys (0-2), and he stroked an RBI double.

Coloma struck out four and walked two, yielding two hits and a run.

Konawaena 18, Ka’u 3: Jake Basque doubled and tripled with three RBIs and three runs scored, and Tevin Canda and James Kapela also finished with three hits, each doubling twice, as the Wildcats won at home.

Ethan Yamaguchi pitched three innings in victory, striking out six and walking one while yielding three runs on six hits before Elisha Martin struck out the side in a game the Wildcats (2-0) ended in the fourth by scoring seven runs.

Canda scored four runs and drove in three, while Jesse Canda, Jaimison Medeiros, Bronson Rivera and Kanai Rivera each had two of Konawaena’s 18 hits.

Bustamante drives in seven

For the second time in four days, Kamehameha’s softball team went to Honokaa and came away with a TKO win.

Leiloa Bustamante drove in seven runs with three triples and Brooke Baptiste struck out nine in a five-innng one-hitter.

Bustamante finished 4 for 4 to fuel and 17-hit attack, Baptiste and Dioni Lincoln each finished with three hits and two RBIs and Kawehi Ili, Kuuili Ili and Kaula Martin collected two hits apiece. Kuuili Ili and Brooke Baptiste had triples and Lincoln doubled.

Tehani Epenesa pitched 4 1/3 innings and took the loss for the Dragons (1-2). Honokaa lost 14-2 to the Warriors on Friday.

Kamehameha isn’t playing games on its campus field this season. On Tuesday, it will host Kohala at Walter Victor complex.
