On April 25, Don Swanson with the U.S. Geological Survey will present “The Double-Barreled 2018 Eruption of Kilauea Volcano.” The eruption in lower Puna, and the partial collapse of Kilauea Caldera 30 miles away together constitute the largest short-lived eruption of the volcano since the 15th century. The development and progress of the eruption constitute a case study that was well-documented by geophysical monitoring and photography. The talk will discuss what did (or does) it all mean, was this the end of what we are used to at Kilauea or a tentative step into something different?
