Fire caused severe damage to a vacant house in Hawaiian Beaches subdivision in Pahoa early Saturday morning.
According to a written Fire Department statement, seven units, including three engine companies responded to the 4:39 a.m. alarm.
The first unit arrived at 4:53 a.m. to find the home at 15-2711 Opakapaka St. about 75 percent involved in flames. A live electrical wire was arcing and sending sparks across the front of the house, the statement said.
According to the statement, “Prompt action by firefighters on scene kept the fire contained and the neighbor’s home safe.”
The fire was reported under control at 5:23 a.m. and extinguished at 5:56 a.m.
Estimated damages were $56,250, while firefighters saved an estimated $18,750 in property damage.
The cause of the blaze is listed as “undetermined.”
