A community meeting is slated for May 21 to discuss flood control measures for the Waiakea and Palai streams in Hilo.
The meeting, hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Hawaii County Public Works, will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course’s multipurpose room at 340 Haihai St.
Staff will answer questions and receive community feedback.
The proposed alternatives include diversion, levees and water detentions.
The streams are normally dry but have flooded during past storms, according to Public Works.
Residents of neighborhoods near Waiakea and Palai streams and Four Mile Creek are encouraged to attend.
