O-line clinic at Panaewa

The Hawaii Island Police Activities League is assisting with Brian Derby Football Camps in hosting an offensive lineman fundamental skills clinic June 8 at Panaewa Park.

Elementary and intermediate athletes will camp from 8-10 a.m., with high schoolers going from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The clinic is free, but it’s requested that each athlete donate two items to Hawaii Island Food Basket.

Athletes and parents should arrive one hour before the clinic start time to register and complete the required HIPAL waiver form.

Hoops tourney in August

The AK Service Basketball Tournament will be held Aug. 16-18 at Panaewa gym, and eight teams are being sought for men’s open and a 35-and-older division.

The entrance fee is $250.

Special Olympics golf registration

Special Olympics East Hawaii golf will begin its 12th season June 21, with practices every Friday at Grand Naniloa Resort Golf Club through Aug. 23.

A golf tournament will be held Aug. 25. Returning and new athletes are encouraged to sign up at www.golftreasures.net. Click on Special Olympics 2019 sign-up for golf and fill out information, or sign up in person at Golf Treasures, located at 37c Lono St. in Hilo.

UHH soccer clinic

A boys soccer clinic directed by the UH-Hilo coaching staff will be held June 22 at Waiakea High School and UHH’s campus.

The all-day clinic costs $80 and is open to boys currently enrolled in high school for the 2019 year, freshman through seniors. There is a maximum registration of 30 boys, making for a smaller coach-to-student setting.

Vulcans coach Paul Regrutto will direct, along with assistant coaches Terry Yamane and Chad Hanashiro. Members of the Vulcan men’s soccer team will staff the camp as well.

The session will run from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Check-in will be at Waiakea at 8 a.m.

Vulcan Basketball Camp on tap

Registration forms are available for the Vulcan Basketball Camp with Coach Jimmy Yagi, which is set for July 22-25 for players ages 9-17.

UHH coaches GE Coleman and David Kaneshiro, along with Vulcan basketball players, local coaches and the Coach Yagi will be on hand as clinicians at UHH gym and Panaewa gym. The cost is $100.

The camp runs 8:30 a.m. to 3 or 4 p.m. each day,depending on age group, and each camper will receive a camp t-shirt, a basketball, a team photo and lunch each day.

Waiakea air riflery

All incoming and returning Waiakea High students interested in participating in air riflery for the 2019 season this fall must email whsairriflery@gmail.com to receive important information about participation requirements, equipment needs, and the voluntary summer practice schedule.

The email should include students full name, grade (2019-2020 school year), gender and parent/guardian’s name.

Hilo needs JV coaches

Hilo High School is accepting applications for junior varsity football assistant coaches.

Applications can be picked up at Hilo High’s main office or gym office, and the deadline to apply is June 14.
