Wailoa Center, in collaboration with the Hawaii Island Art Alliance, is proud to host the “MidSummer Art Celebration 2019 — 3rd Annual All Media Juried Exhibit,” which is on exhibit now through June 26 in Wailoa’s Main Gallery.
More than 100 entries from artists throughout the state and mainland were accepted to be part of the exhibit.
This year’s juror was Emily Catey Weiss, who has years of experience coordinating public art programs and exhibits. She earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in 2000 from the Ohio State University, paving the way for Emily Catey Photography LLC, which she operated successfully in Haleiwa on Oahu’s North Shore before moving to Hawaii Island in 2009.
From 2004-09 she was involved with various civic, business and state organizations in the revitalization of Honolulu’s Arts District. She also served as president of the Haleiwa Arts Festival.
She joined the Volcano Art Center as program director in 2009. Since then, she has had various positions within the organization and currently manages the VAC Gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Her philosophy is grounded in the belief that cultivating, sustaining and celebrating the arts is essential to a vibrant community. She appreciates expert craftsmanship and fine details in art. She also enjoys creative techniques and unusual materials presented in refreshing ways.
Hawaii Island Art Alliance is a nonprofit arts organization whose mission is to support art in the community and currently supports art programing at Wailoa Center.
