KAILUA-KONA — West Side Hawaii Little League used a third inning explosion Friday to land one step closer the to title at the Little League 8-9-10 District 4 Tournament at Old Kona Airport Park on Friday.

The West Side squad put up five runs in the third inning and held off a fiesty Hilo squad for a 6-4 victory.

Josiah Kapela, Nahana Udac and Stephen Amalfal-Marguid had multihit games for West Side, while Josiah Nihoa and Kahiau Kalaniopio notched two hits apiece for Hilo.

Jared Visser picked up the win on the mound for West Side.

Hilo will face North Hawaii in a rematch of the opening game of the tournament today at the Old Airport field at 10 a.m Saturday. Hilo won the first game in thrilling fashion, 14-12.

West Side moves on to Sunday’s championship game with the win and will face the winner of North Hawaii/Hilo.
