UH-Hilo’s women’s soccer team is getting its time in on the road.
Two matches in, the Vuls (0-1-1) have played 39 minutes and 30 seconds of extra time — almost 220 minutes overall. The Vulcans went 110 minutes Monday at Cal State East Bay before settling for a 0-0 deadlock after losing 2-1 in OT on Saturday at Monterey Bay.
“We have to find a way to get our offense going,” coach Gene Okamura said. “I am very happy with their work ethic right now, we just need to put away our opportunities on offense.”
The Pioneers had the edge in shots (21-13), but the Vulcans led in shots on goal (10-8). The Pioneers had a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
“Bailey came up big today for sure,” Okamura said of senior keeper Bailey Cahill. “On offense, we had some really good opportunities, but seemed to put each one of them right at their goalie.”
Cahill had eight saves in the match, while East Bay goalkeeper Jordan Smith had 10. UHH’s Crystal Sanchez had three shots on goal and Brende Yoshizumi had a pair for the Vulcans
