Current, former and prospective members, as well as other interested people, are invited to join the League of Women Voters of Hawaii County to learn more about Dr. Tim Richards’ vision for “utilizing the abundant potential for energy generation while increasing food self-reliance.”
His talk, “Agriculture, Water, Energy: A Food Nexus,” is slated for Friday in Panini Classroom 126 at Hawaii Community College-Palamanui, 73-4225 Ane Keohokalole Highway, in Kailua-Kona
The meeting starts with registration at 9:30 a.m., with a welcome and call to order for the business meeting and program planning session at 10 a.m. The talk by Richards will start promptly at 11 a.m. Lunch ($15 payable at the door) and a board meeting follow.
Richards was re-elected for a second term as District 9 member of the Hawaii County Council and serves as chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, Water, Energy and Environmental Management and vice chairman of the Finance Committee.
Richards is a sixth-generation kamaaina resident of Hawaii and third generation to the Big Island. He was born and raised in North Kohala and grew up working on his family’s Kahua Ranch.
After graduating from Hawaii Preparatory Academy, Richards continued his education at Washington State University in Pullman, Wash., studying animal science and earning an advanced degree in veterinary medicine. He is now a veterinarian in Waimea.
