Raymond Dean Dion, 65, of Hilo died Sept. 8 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. He was a retired corrections officer, member of Elks Club and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Visitation 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct 1, at Ballard Family Mortuary. Visitation at 9:30 a.m. Service at 10:30 a.m. Burial at noon at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Survived by wife, Lorraine Ann Dion; son, Keola Keanaaina; daughters, Nuala Taylor and Nohea-Minei Keanaaina; brother, Michael Dion; sister, Lisa Dion; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Joseph Nohea Kalima Jr., 63, of Hilo died Aug. 24. Born in Hilo, he was a freelance artist, special needs and conflict behavioral specialist and volleyball and paddling coach. AJ McDanold, 91, of Waikoloa died Sept. 17 at home. Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., he was a retired Realtor, developer, farmer, member of Kona Lions Club, contributor to Keauhou Canoe Club and Hulihee Palace and U.S. Navy veteran. Hoolaulea celebration of life and paddle-out scattering of ashes at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Keauhou Bay. Aloha attire. Loose flowers welcome. Melvin “Mel” Douglas Revilla, 73, of Hilo died Sept. 8 at home. Born in Papaaloa, he was a retired lumber buyer for HPM Building Supply and U.S. Army veteran. Ronald Masami Takahata, 95, of Hilo died Aug. 19 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Pahala, he was a businessman and owner of the former Quality Auto Supply, U.S. Army World War II Military Intelligence Service veteran and member of Hilo Interpreters Club, Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hawaii Island Kumamoto Doshikai and Y’s Men’s, Americans of Japanese Ancestry, Keaau Seniors, Pioneers and Wanderers golf clubs and Papaikou Hongwanji and Kamana karaoke clubs. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts).
