Police say two people were arrested after an investigation of business and vehicle break-ins between Oct. 5-10 in the vicinity of Holomua and Makaala streets in Hilo’s Kanoelehua Industrial Area.
Shane Johnson, 28, of Ka‘u was arrested during a traffic stop of a sport-utility vehicle seen in video surveillance, police said, after a search warrant on the SUV found drugs and stolen items from one of the businesses.
Johnson was charged with drug possession, theft, trespassing, habitual property crime, and several traffic criminal offenses. His bail was set at $24,000, pending a court appearance.
Police say the same SUV was spotted in the Waiakea Center and a 24-year-old woman driving it, Megan Crutcher, was arrested on a bench warrant for contempt of court.
Police say Crutcher, though not charged with the break-ins, is a person of interest, and are asking that anyone with information on this couple related to break-ins is asked to call the police non-emergency line at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
