Big Island police are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying an unknown man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in June.
An image captured by video surveillance matches a description provided by the victim, who reported a sexual assault that occurred June 15 near Banyan Drive in Hilo.
The man is described as a black male in his 30s, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, about 160 pounds, with short curly black hair and a short beard.
Surveillance footage depicts him wearing a gray sweatshirt bearing the names Malcolm, Harriet and Martin, presumably references to black civil rights leaders throughout history.
Anyone with information about the man’s identity or whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Gavin Kagimoto at 961-2276.
