The scammers are spoofing the real Bank of Hawaii call center number — 1-888-643-3888 — which appears on recipients’ caller ID.
The caller states he or she is from the Bank of Hawaii Fraud Center and asks for the recipient to verify certain personal information, such as date of birth and Social Security number, and requests their debit card personal identification number.
Bank of Hawaii does not call, email or text message customers requesting personal identification information such as name, Social Security numbers, PIN, account numbers or passwords. Any request asking for personal information should be viewed as highly suspicious and recipients should hang up.
Anyone who receives such a call should confirm the validity of suspicious requests by contacting the company supposedly making the call using a legitimate phone number.
Bank of Hawaii customers who mistakenly provided personal information should immediately contact the bank at 1-888-643- 3888 and press “0.”
