Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary was selected to participate in the Maddie’s Fund nationwide holiday “Foster Express Challenge.”
From now through Jan. 10, 2020, families are encouraged help reduce the number of lonely pets during the holiday season and take part in the challenge by offering a homeless animal a temporary home for the holidays, or an outing at the beach!
Short-term fostering involves taking animals out of the sanctuary for anywhere from two hours to two weeks, which can include day trips, overnight stays and holiday fostering. Don’t forgot to post photos of our sanctuary companions enjoying the holidays in your home.
Increasing the sanctuary’s foster network, even for a short period of time, provides more space to take in temporary animals. If you are interested in fostering an animal, stop by the sanctuary at 17-382 13 Mile Road in Kurtistown and pick a dog or cat (or both!) to spend a few hours or days with you.
“Dogs and cats are like people,” says Rainbow Friends Vice President Kathy Buono. “A few hours, days or weeks in a different environment with extra play and attention is like a weekend for people. It relaxes them, as well as the caregivers. A win-win”
Maddie’s Fund will award $55,000 to qualifying rescue organizations throughout the country. Those who participate and foster an animal will be giving them extra love while helping raise funds for the shelter.
The sanctuary is open 10 a.m.-3 p.m. daily, and no appointment is necessary. Instructions, matchmaking and supplies will be provided.
Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary is a no-kill sanctuary that is home to 70 dogs and 400 cats.
