Born on Oahu, he was a retired member of Hawaii Carpenters Union Local 745 and the Washington state Carpenters Union, U.S. Air Force jet mechanic, life member of American Legion Post 127 in Bothell, Wash., and former member of Iron Horse Motorcycle Club on Oahu, Hawaiian Civitan Club of Kona, Kai Opua Canoe Club, former youth football and baseball coach and Special Olympics volunteer.
