Police say a 14-year-old boy who was questioned in the tragic fatal stabbing of a 4-year-old girl in Hawaiian Beaches has been released into the custody of Child Welfare Services.
According to police, the girl suffered a knife wound to the neck while two juvenile boys were cooking breakfast at around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday.
The children’s parents were at work when the incident occurred.
When emergency crews responded to the home, a neighbor was performing CPR on the girl.
The girl was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The case is initially classified as a manslaughter investigation, but according to police, it’s possible the stabbing was accidental.
