Former UHH guard drafted

The Jamestown Jackals of The Basketball League selected UH-Hilo alum Larry Bush in the second round of professional league’s draft earlier this month.

Bush, a 6-foot-2 guard who was a second-team All-Pacific West Conference selection in 2019 in his only season as a Vulcan, is set to join the New York team for a season that begins in January and runs through April

The Basketball League began in 2018 and has 12 teams.

• UHH senior Kupaa Harrison was honored as Pacific West Conference defender of the week Monday after posting eight steals in two losses at Biola and Point Loma. Harrison is fifth in the PacWest in steals with 1.7 per game, as well third in scoring (17.7) and rebounding (7.9).

The Vulcans (2-4) head to Oahu the Hoops in Hawaii D2 Power Invitational, taking on Saint Martin’s on Friday and Alaska Anchorage on Saturday.

Mixed success

Mixed Plate, a 12-under team from Big Island, finished fourth in the 3.0 Division at the United States Junior Tennis Association spring section championship.

The players – Jake Tokouke, Noah Okazaki, Daniel Nucci, Parker Felte, Abbie Takamine, Arabella Asuncion, Jessie Higa, Keiko Felt – were coached by Brian Higa and Flavio Nucci.

Color Run on tap

The Waiakea Intermediate Inaugural Color Run – sponsored by Sunrise Athletics – will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the grass track field. All proceeds will go toward supporting the Behavior Intervention and Support Program.
