Samuel Liwaimu Bannister Sr., 83, of Waimea died Nov. 26 at home. Born Waialua, Oahu, he was retired from the Department of Water Supply and a retired U.S. Marine Corps gunnery sergeant who served during the Vietnam War. Masaru “Masa” “Maru” Deguchi, 91, of Kealakekua died Dec. 13 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Kealakekua, he was a retired maintenance worker for Kona Market Place, coffee farmer, bowler and member of Daifukuji Soto Mission and Kona Fukuoka Kenjin Kai. Visitation 3-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at Kona Daifukuji Soto Mission in Honalo. Service at 4 p.m., followed by a celebration of life in the Kona Daifukuji Soto Mission Social Hall. Calvin Fumio Uratani, 73, of Hilo died Dec. 5 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired utility mechanic for the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and U.S. Army veteran.
