Makua Lani looked the part.
Josh Luth netted a hat trick Wednesday as the Lions beat Honokaa 6-2 in a BIIF Division II boys soccer match at the Dragons’ field.
“You can tell they are a club team,” said Honokaa coach Maurince Miranda, who praised Makua Lani (4-1) for its technical skill and its tactical play.
At the same time, he said the Dragons (1-2) made it too easy for the Lions, who scored four times in the first half.
“We were our own worst enemy,” Miranda said. “They are ahead of us right now, hopefully that changes.”
It could be hard to catch up to the Lions as long as Luth, a senior, continues to provide a scoring threat to go along with Isaiah Easley, who also scored Wednesday. Luth had his first three-goal of the season. He and each Easley each scored twice earlier this season in a win at Kealakehe.
Also netting goals against the Dragons were Kai Van Bergen and Stevan Perrino. Kelson Pedro and Keanakolu Case accounted for Honokaa’s scoring.
Hawaii Prep boys 6, Kohala 2: Kaisei Mochizuki and Aiden Richardso scored two goals apiece in Waimea as HPA remained unbeaten.
Conor Hunt and Noah Balaam also found the back of the net. Kainalu Yamamoto and Shiloh Perez scored for the Cowboys (2-1).
Hawaii Prep girls 7, Honokaa 0: Bella Police completed her hat trick just a few minutes into the second half, and Jenna Perry, Malia Brost and Alianna West added a goal and an assist for visiting HPA.
Kahele Walsh capped the scoring with a goal in the 62nd minute, and Maia Mills collected the shutout. The Dragons have been held scoreless in three losses this season.
