Hilo High senior wide receiver Kilohana Haasenritter signed with the University of Hawaii football team on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Haasenritter is one of three receivers in UH’s 2020 signing class, joining Campbell senior Tamatoa Mokiao-Hunter and Calvin Turner, from Jacksonville (Fla.) University.
Haasenritter helped the Vikings beat Iolani 20-17 for the HHSAA Division I championship. He ran for a 6-yard touchdown, finished with 11 yards on two carries and had six catches for 73 yards. On defense, he had one solo tackle and two pass breakups.
The BIIF Division II offensive player of the year for Kamehameha as a junior, Haasenritter made a smooth transition as a two-way player after transferring to Hilo, scoring 19 touchdowns, including 12 through the air. He caught 44 passes for 661 yards, added 249 yards on the ground and also was trusted as a lockdown cornerback for the Vikings.
He was rated as a three-star recruit by 247Spors and is the first Vikings senior to sign directly with an FBS school since they began their BIIF dynasty in 2013.
Haasenritter committed to UH in June a few weeks after before being offered a scholarship by coach Nick Rolovich, calling the opportunity to play major college football on Oahu “surreal.”
Before the state championship game, he thanked the community for all of its support.
“The community helps us stay stronger” Haasenritter said. “We love just love and enjoy playing for them. There is nothing like having the Hilo community around.”
He is from an athletic family. His parents, Charlie (baseball) and Kahea (volleyball), both played at UH-Hilo. His uncle Mana Silva played at UH and in the NFL. His grandfather, Maurice Silva, is a longtime youth football coach.
His uncles Matt (baseball) and Kala (baseball) and aunt Haunani Haasenritter (softball) all played at UHH as well.
His late grandfather, Charles Haasenritter Sr., was a youth baseball coach and coached Hilo’s Senior Little League World Series championship team in 2003. He died in 2004 at age 49.
Also signing with an FBS school was Konawaena defensive end Alex Muti, who’s headed to Brigham Young.
