David N. Cabuag Sr., 80, of Hilo, formerly of Honolulu and Everett, Wash., died Nov. 21 at home. Born on Oahu, he was a retired member of Hawaii Carpenters Union Local 745 and the Washington state Carpenters Union, U.S. Air Force jet mechanic, life member of American Legion Post 127 in Bothell, Wash., and former member of Iron Horse Motorcycle Club on Oahu, Hawaiian Civitan Club of Kona, Kai Opua Canoe Club, former youth football and baseball coach and Special Olympics volunteer. ‘A Million Dreams’ benefit concert this weekend

Kilauea Drama and Entertainment Network will present the benefit concert “A Million Dreams” this weekend. The concert will have two performances, one at 2:30 p.m. and the other at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 30) at Christ Lutheran Church, located at 595 Kapiolani St. in Hilo.

County honors exemplary employees

Hawaii County hosted its 54th annual Employee Recognition awards ceremony for 2018-19 on Nov. 14, with 36 exemplary employees nominated for the categories of manager, supervisor and employee of the year.

Call to artists for juried plein aire exhibit

The Wailoa Center is putting out a call to plein aire artists who would like to submit pieces for the upcoming statewide juried exhibit “Plein Aire Perspectives,” which will be on display from Feb. 7-27. The exhibit is sponsored by the Hawaii Island Art Alliance.

Greenwell Garden purchased

HONOLULU — The Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden in South Kona has been sold to the local nonprofit that formed three years ago to ensure it remain in Big Island hands.
