Council approves ban on county use of herbicides

Urged on by new mothers, beekeepers, organic farmers and a soccer coach, the County Council on Wednesday passed a bill banning the county’s use of herbicides on public property, making Hawaii County the first local government in the state to do so.

Fire damages HPP squatter house

Iwamoto celebrates 50 years in Zonta Club of Hilo

Amy Iwamoto joined Zonta Club of Hilo in 1969, and she is the club’s second longest-serving member. The local service club was founded in 1950 and is part of Zonta International, which is celebrating its centennial this month.
