Rosalina “Lita” Bender, 82, of Keaau died Oct. 14 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Keaau, she was a retired kitchen helper for Hilo Hospital and a hair dresser for Sadano, a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Keaau and a member of Hilo Hospital Retirees Club. Visitation 4-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo. Service 5 p.m. Casual attire. HPA Handbell Choir slates holiday performances

The Hawaii Preparatory Academy Middle School Handbell Choir, under the direction of Georgia Polakova, will present a free holiday performance for the community at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Thelma Parker Memorial Public and School Library in Waimea.

Police arrest 10 for DUI

During the week of Nov. 4-10, Hawaii Island police arrested 10 motorists for DUI. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None were younger than 21.

Hawaii County Clerk Jon Henricks told state legislators Wednesday that the county will have a high-speed ballot sorting machine by February, which he said will give Hawaii Island elections workers “plenty of time” to prepare for the new voting-by-mail system that will be in place for the 2020 primary and general elections.
