Applications are now being accepted for Kamehameha Schools Hawaii summer academies offered through Halau Kupukupu and Halau Mauli Ola programs.
Classes begin June 17 and are offered in two-week or four-week programs with the final class taking place on July 15.
Students entering grades K-8 next fall can now begin to register for Halau Kupukupu.
Halau Kupukupu empowers haumana to access, explore, and amplify their ‘oiwi lens, a multi-generational edge, which enables our keiki to engage confidently with the world around them. The program offers two summer academies based on grade levels:
• Innovations Academy (Grades K-5) lets learners sharpen their perspectives as they investigate challenges that impact our ‘aina, lahui, and world, harnessing their unique talents to create innovative and responsible solutions and contribute to a legacy of wisdom for the future.
• Ua Ao Academy (Grades 4-8) offers opportunities for accelerated student advancement and success. Like the brightness of day, learners develop valuable academic and life readiness skills that illuminate each haumana’s unique brilliance. Hawai’i shines brightly as ‘opio develop mastery, experience, and character to fully engage their kuleana as ‘oiwi Hawaii learners and leaders in the world.
Students entering grade 9-12 next fall will choose from courses offered through Halau Mauli Ola.
Halau Mauli Ola builds and extends upon the ‘ike mauli (foundational knowledge) through ways of knowing extended beyond the regular school year and to allow students to prepare for what is beyond high school through college, career, and life learning educational opportunities. The program offers credit advancement for high school students seeking to earn required and/or elective credit(s) for the 2020–21 school year. Current sophomore and junior students can even earn college credit via dual credit courses offered both in-person and online this summer.
Course catalogs for both Halau Kupukupu and Halau Mauli Ola can be found online at http://hawaii.ksbe.edu/summer or hard copies are available at the campus in each division’s office. Current KS Hawaii students should register for courses via their KS Connect accounts at connect.ksbe.edu.
Students currently attending a State of Hawaii DOE, public charter or other private institution should apply on the Kamehameha Schools Admissions website at www.ksbe.edu/admissions.
