Fires destroyed two houses Tuesday in Mountain View subdivisions.
Six units responded to the 2:29 p.m. alarm for the first fire, on Pikake Street in Fern Acres subdivision, with the first unit arriving on scene 20 minutes later.
Arriving units found the single-story 20-foot-by-30-foot structure fully involved and collapsed with metal roofing covering spot fires and a single-passenger all-terrain vehicle also engulfed in flames. The fire extended to the surrounding brush.
The fire was reported extinguished at 3:30 p.m.
Officials estimated the damage at $60,000. The property had two dwellings; the other had burned to the ground approximately two weeks ago.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
No injuries were reported and there were no known occupants displaced by the fire.
Fourteen firefighters, 11 from Hawaii Fire Department and three volunteers were involved.
The second fire was at a Kolea Street home in Eden Roc subdivision.
Ten units, including three engine companies and two tankers, responded to an 8:19 p.m. alarm. The first unit arrived on scene at 8:38 p.m.
Arriving firefighters found the two-story, 1,280-square-foot wooden dwelling fully involved with the roof collapsed. All of the home’s occupants made it out safely.
According to HFD, initial actions included tactics to ensure the fire didn’t spread to a nearby structure.
The fire was reported under control at 8:58 p.m. and extinguished at 10:57 p.m.
Damage is estimated at $160,000 and the cause of the fire is listed as “undetermined.”
No injuries were reported to the home’s occupants or to the 14 firefighters, all from HFD, involved in the response.
