During the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2, Hawaii Island police arrested 15 motorists for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident and two were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, six; South Hilo, four; Puna, three; and Hamakua and South Kohala, one each.
So far this year, there have been 103 DUI arrests compared with 80 during the same period last year, an increase of 28.8 percent.
There have been 91 major accidents so far this year compared to 87 during the same period last year, an increase of 4.6 percent.
To date, there have been three traffic compared to two fatalities for the same time last year, an increase of 50 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
