The Judicial Selection Commission has submitted the names of four nominees for the judicial vacancy in Hilo Circuit Court, a position vacant since the November retirement of Circuit Judge Greg K. Nakamura.
The Judicial Selection Commission has submitted the names of four nominees for the judicial vacancy in Hilo Circuit Court, a position vacant since the November retirement of Circuit Judge Greg K. Nakamura.
The nominees are:
• Jeffrey Hawk, an attorney and per diem judge of the Third Circuit Family Court;
• William Heflin, a partner and attorney at the law firm of Alcain Naniole &Heflin;
• Peter Kubota, a private practice attorney with his own firm; and
• Jeffrey Ng, a senior trial deputy public defender with the state.
Gov. David Ige will interview each nominee and is seeking public comment on the governor’s website at https://governor.hawaii.gov/contact-us/contact-the-governor/. Ige has until March 15 to make his appointment, which is subject to Senate confirmation.
