On Friday, the Hawaii Island Security and Safety Professionals Association recognized South Kohala Patrol Officer Adam Roberg as their Officer of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2019.
According to a Hawaii Police Department statement, Roberg was selected in recognition of his outstanding job performance, commitment, and dedication to duty.
During the quarter, Roberg responded to 148 calls for service, issued 198 traffic citations, initiated DUI investigations, and made 29 arrests which resulted in 79 criminal charges.
On Dec. 19, Roberg was assigned to a DUI roadblock and detected the smell of marijuana coming from a vehicle. A search of the car yielded two unregistered loaded handguns, ammunition, 3.3 grams of methamphetamine, 10.8 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and $336 for possible forfeiture.
Two Honokaa women, 44-year-old Nani Jo Keanini and 40-year-old Crystal Botelho were arrested. They were charged with a total of five firearms and five drug offenses, including a felon in possession of a firearm charge for Keanini.
