DOH reports 387 total COVID-19 cases statewide, 16 new; Maui records first COVID-19 death

The state Department of Health reported as of noon today, the total number of statewide COVID-19 cases is 387, with 16 newly reported.

Those numbers include the fifth recorded death of a COVID-19 patient and the first on a neighbor island, an elderly Maui man who had other underlying health issues, according to DOH.

Of Hawaii’s cases, 26, or 7% have required hospitalization, and 89 have been released from isolation.

More than 80% of the state’s cases are residents returning to Hawaii from other areas.

The largest number of reported cases, by far, is in Honolulu County, with 292. The county, which encompasses the island of Oahu, has had four COVID-19-related deaths. Twenty-one individuals required hospitalization and 64 patients on Oahu have been released from isolation.

Maui County has 44 reported cases. Of those, four required hospitalization and 11 have been released from isolation.

Hawaii County has 23 reported cases. On the Big Island, none have died or required hospitalization, and nine have been released from isolation.

And Kauai County has 17 reported cases. One individual has required hospitalization and five have been released from isolation.

None have died on Kauai.

According to the DOH, county identification is pending in nine cases.

Two Hawaii residents have been diagnosed as COVID-19 positive outside Hawaii, DOH said.
