Kilauea Drama &Entertainment Network announced Wednesday it has suspended all theater productions for 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a written statement, Suzi Bond, KDEN’s executive director, said she’s hopeful the theater group will be able to sponsor the Volcano Festival Chorus, which plans to start rehearsals in September. KDEN also hopes to resume its one-man living history show, “A Walk Into the Past” with Dick Hershberger portraying Dr. Thomas Jaggar, once Hawaii Volcanoes National Park reopens.
KDEN still plans to stage the comedy “How The Other Half Loves” by Alan Ayckbourn in spring 2021 and Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera “The Pirates of Penzance” in July 2021.
The company, a nonprofit, is seeking donations to pay ongoing bills such as utilities. Checks can be made to KDEN and mailed to HCR 3 Box 13089, Keaau, HI 96749, and there is a donation button on the website kden.org.
