Despite an announcement on Monday stating county beach parks would open today, Mayor Harry Kim clarified that parks will instead open tomorrow.
Kim apologized for the confusion, explaining that any county policies that loosen restrictions imposed by Gov. David Ige’s emergency proclamations cannot be passed without a stamp of approval from the governor and the attorney general.
However, Kim confirmed that, later today, Ige will approve the reopening of the county’s beach parks, with parks to reopen beginning tomorrow.
The parks that will reopen include:

- Honoli‘i Beach Park
- Kolekole Gulch Park
- Carlsmith Beach Park
- Happiness Gardens
- Hilo Bayfront Beach Park
- James Kealoha Beach Park

- Lehia Beach Park
- Leleiwi Beach Park
- Wai‘olena Beach Park
- Wai‘uli Beach Park
- Lili‘uokalani Gardens
- Mokuola
- Onekahakeha Beach Park
- Reeds Bay Beach Park
