Beatrice Toshiko Abe, 97, of Hilo, formerly of Laupahoehoe, died April 22 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Papaaloa, she was a retired sales clerk for the former Kurohara’s Shop for Men, member of Papaaloa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple and volunteer for Hawaii Island Adult Care. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by caregivers, Sergio and Ruth Cabal of Hilo; sons, Randall (Linda Mae) Abe of Kaneohe, Oahu, Mervyn Abe of Oregon and Lance (Amy) Abe of Hilo; daughter, Joyce Yamamoto of Hilo; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Donald “Toby” Chase Farrell, 58, of Kalopa died May 10 at home. Born in Los Angeles, he was a carpenter. Private services at a later date. Harry “Butch” M. Kalima Jr., 61, of Hilo died April 24 at home. Born in Hilo, he was the owner of Aqua Tech Pool Services, former press operator for the Hawaii Tribune-Herald and member of Waiakea Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Services at a later date.
