Pahoa man in custody on suspicion of murder

A 51-year-old Pahoa man is in police custody on suspicion of beating a housemate to death with a baseball bat at a Hawaiian Shores subdivision home.

Police say Stanley Marion Cummins turned himself in Saturday morning at the Pahoa police station.

Officers responded shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday to the residence. The victim, said to be a man in his 30s, was discovered in bed with apparent traumatic injuries to his head and face area consistent with a beating.

Police and fire department medics performed CPR, unsuccessfully. The victim was pronounced dead at 12:05 p.m. at Hilo Medical Center.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine exact cause of death.

Cummins was booked on suspicion of second-degree murder.
