Hawaii County is seeking proposals for a second round of projects that will receive nearly $1 million for coronavirus relief from a second allocation of federal Community Development Block Grant funding as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
The county Office of Housing and Community Development will receive approximately $978,184 of Community Development Block Grant funding, which can be used for grants or loan assistance to eligible agencies and nonprofits to respond to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Projects could include the construction of COVID-19 testing or treatment facilities, supporting new businesses to create jobs in the wake of pandemic-related mass unemployment, upgrading facilities to improve sanitation and social distancing, and more.
Special preference will be given to projects targeting the needs of low- and moderate-income people.
Proposal forms can be found at hawaiicounty.gov/office-of-housing. Original proposals are due no later than 4:30 p.m. July 13.
