The Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island, to date, has produced more than 62,000 hot meals for those on Hawaii Island who continue to need assistance.
“During these uncertain times, our small community-focused nonprofit continues to bring critical resources and daily supplemental assistance direct to our most at-risk and impacted populations throughout Hawaii County,” said Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island CEO Chad Cabral in an email.
The organization’s committed staff and community volunteers are dedicated to the ongoing efforts needed to produce, transport and distribute these essential Monday-Friday hot evening meals that continue to benefit Hawaii Island children, kupuna, homeless populations and family households experiencing hardship as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and related economic crisis.
On Friday, the agency’s Hilo and Kona kitchen operations prepared nearly 900 hot and fresh chicken hekka plates, Cabral said.
Meals are produced daily, throughout the workweek, and all meals continue to be provided free of charge.
“Thank you to everyone that has joined our efforts in helping to make this much needed nutritional supplementation resource possible,” Cabral said, adding that Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island will continue to support the island’s communities during the pandemic for as long as it is able to assist.
