During the week of July 13-19, Hawaii Island police arrested 28 motorists for DUI. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic collision and two were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 13; South Hilo, seven; Puna, five; and South Kohala, three.
So far this year, there have been 489 DUI arrests compared to 621 during the same period last year a decrease of 21.3 percent.
There have been 426 major accidents so far this year compared to 526 during the same period last year, a decrease of 19 percent.
To date, there were have been 11 official traffic fatalities, compared to 13 fatalities for the same time last year, a decrease of 15.4 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
