During the week of July 20-26, Hawaii Island police arrested 15 motorists for driving under the influence.
Three of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents and one was younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were:
• Kona, six.
• Puna, four.
• South Hilo and South Kohala, two each.
• North Hilo, one.
So far this year, there have been 504 DUI arrests compared to 642 during the same period last year, representing a decrease of 21.5%.
There have been 440 major accidents so far this year compared to 551 during the same period last year, which represents a decrease of 20.1%.
To date, there have been 11 official traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared to 13 during the same time period last year. That represents a decrease of 15.4% in fatalities on island roadways.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
