On Aug. 5, Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island, along with volunteers and supporters from West Hawaii, the Hawaii Government Employee Association, the Department of Education Homeless Concerns office and Rotary Club of Hilo Bay gathered to unbox, remove store tags and sort more than 21,000 pieces of new clothing that was recently donated by Old Navy.
On Aug. 5, Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island, along with volunteers and supporters from West Hawaii, the Hawaii Government Employee Association, the Department of Education Homeless Concerns office and Rotary Club of Hilo Bay gathered to unbox, remove store tags and sort more than 21,000 pieces of new clothing that was recently donated by Old Navy.
The donated clothing will be packaged and transported by BGCBI into communities throughout Hawaii Island and given out to children, kupuna, homeless families, and struggling family households that have been significantly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. All clothing offered, like our community support meals, and mobile youth outreach services, is free.
During this pandemic, Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island remains committed to bring key supplemental resources and family support assistance to communities. As part of the Mobile Youth Outreach implementation, the club will continue to drive direct into rural communities to provide hot meals Monday-Friday, educational resources for youth (i.e., homework assistance, “at-home” school supplies, academic tutoring and distance learning technology), and now clothing resources for those that are going without.
