During the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4, Hawaii Island police arrested 25 motorists for DUI. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic accident. None were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 11; South Hilo, seven; Puna, four; South Kohala, two; and Hamakua, one.
So far this year, there have been 726 DUI arrests compared to 850 during the same period last year, a decrease of 14.6%.
There have been 584 major accidents so far this year compared to 738 during the same period last year, a decrease of 20.9%.
To date, there have been 13 official traffic fatalities, compared to 14 during the same time period last year, a decrease of 7.1%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
