The Walgreens in Hilo is permanently closing its doors Nov. 9, the Tribune-Herald has learned.
Calls by the Tribune-Herald to Walgreens’ corporate offices Thursday and Friday were not returned.
It’s unclear how many employees will be impacted by the closure, but the store has a retail area and full-service pharmacy.
The Hilo Walgreens first opened in April 2011 in the former Borders bookstore site at the corner of Makaala Street and Kanoelehua Avenue.
In August, the Pacific Business News reported that Walgreens would close 200 stores across the country this fall. Specific locations were not provided.
“As previously announced, we are undertaking a transformational cost management program to accelerate the ongoing transformation of our business, enable investments in key areas and to become a more efficient enterprise,” a spokesperson for Walgreens said to PBN.
