Help yourself
Citizens of Hawaii: Do you know how much more you are paying for a gallon of gasoline here, as opposed to the mainland pieces? Let me inform you.
A gallon of gas in Houston, Texas, is $1.71. Here it is $3.59.
That means the people of Hawaii have been paying millions of dollars for fuel.
When fuel prices dropped worldwide, the prices here only dropped a small amount.
In 2005, a cap was put on the fuel prices, and the price was calculated to only be a reasonable price above mainland prices. This worked until we elected a Republican governor, Linda Lingle. She immediately started to get the gas cap lifted.
Well, she sure got that taken care of.
Remember, when you vote, are you voting to keep more of your money for yourself, or are you going to help big business pay their CEO the millions of dollars in salary they now receive?
That money is never saved. They only get bigger and bigger bonuses, and when there is a unexpected problem, then they go back to the taxpayer — not for a loan, but a gift — so they can stay afloat.
The taxpayer is always on the losing end. So vote to help yourself.

Unfriendly dentist
My wife had a cracked tooth. She needed an oral surgeon to pull the tooth. So she made an appointment with a local dentist to have the tooth pulled.
She had to take a sick day from her job to attend the appointment. She showed up early and filled out the necessary papers. Upon finishing the questionnaire, the receptionist at the office took it to the dentist. The receptionist returned a short time later and told my wife that the dentist would not pull her tooth because my wife works as a nurse at the Hilo Medical Center.
My wife was extremely disappointed.
Why would the dentist schedule an appointment, have the patient show up, then refuse service? Why couldn’t the dentist screen the patients ahead of time, as to their occupations, before setting up a schedule?
My wife had to forego a day of work to attend this appointment. If it was the other way around, and the patient did the cancelling, the dentist would have gladly charge the patient.
What makes a health care worker at the hospital more contagious than any one else in Hilo? The nurses at Hilo Medical Center are trained to handle COVID-19 patients and they wear PPE. They practice professional protocols.
People in the rest of this country honor health care workers because they help COVID patients. Nurses put their lives on the line to help COVID patients. The nurses don’t turn patients away because they have COVID.
Here in Hilo, we have a dentist who turns a patient away because she is a nurse. Nurses that work at the hospital get tested very frequently. When they are tested negative, they are less likely to be contagious than someone untested and asymptomatic. My wife tested negative.
So, is this dentist going to turn away teachers next?
