During the week of Oct. 5-11, Hawaii Island police arrested 25 motorists for DUI. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents; four were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona and South Hilo, 11 each; Puna, two; and South Kohala, one.
So far this year, there have been 751 DUI arrests compared to 870 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13.7%.
There have been 592 major accidents so far this year compared to 752 during the same period last year, a decrease of 21.3%.
To date, there have been 13 official traffic fatalities compared to 15 during the same time period last year, a decrease of 13.3%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
