The first East Hawaii babies born in 2021 arrived a little later than the new year itself.
Hilo Medical Center welcomed the first babies of the year on Jan. 2.
Baby boy Richard was born at 12:34 a.m. to mom Jasmin Richard. He weighed 5 pounds, 5 ounces and measured 18 inches long. Mom and baby were presented a gift basket stuffed with baby care supplies donated by the Eagles of Keaau.
Jayce Austin Phillips was born to Ariane Dayoan and Joshua Phillips at 1:51 p.m. He weighed 9 pounds, 5 ounces and measured 21 inches long. His big sister, 5-year-old, Averie Mae, was waiting anxiously for him to come home. The family was presented with a gift basket from Hilo Medical Center’s OB Unit.
