During the week of Jan. 11-17, Hawaii Island police arrested 20 motorists for DUI. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic accident. None were younger than of 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 13; South Hilo, three; Puna, two; Ka‘u and South Kohala, one each.
So far this year, there have been 65 DUI arrests compared to 48 during the same period last year, an increase of 35.4%.
There have been 30 major accidents so far this year compared to 57 during the same period last year, a decrease of 47.4%.
There have been two official traffic fatalities so far this year, compared to one at this time last year, an increase of 100%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
