The UH-Hilo cross country’s depth took a hit when Makena Morris, the third-best runner, turned an ankle in practice and missed Friday’s meet at the Grand Naniloa Golf Course.
Hawaii Pacific’s Robyn Kaltenbrunn won her second straight meet and the Sharks beat the Vulcans for the team title.
Kaltenbrunn crossed the finish line in 21:30.3 and her teammate Karen Corona Perez was second in 22:27.7 on the 5K course. Chaminade’s Olivia Mariucci was third in 22:31.5.
UHH’s Emma Heidelmeier (22:52.2) was fourth and Olivia Jarvis (23:19.1) fifth.
HPU had a team score of 24, UHH was next at 32, and the Silverswords didn’t field enough runner for a team score.
UHH’s Caitlin Kawaiaea was seventh in 23:45.1, followed by Leilani Stone in ninth in 23:57.6, Lily Gavagan (26:00.7), Sabina Boo-Rivera (26:48.9), and Aurea Streadbeck (29:52.4).
HPU will host the final PacWest on Feb. 27.
