No new COVID-19 cases were reported for a second straight day Tuesday on the Big Island, leaving the island’s total case count to 2,216.
A total of 17 new cases were reported across the state by the Department of Health with Oahu reporting 13 of those cases, Maui County three and Kauai zero. One resident was diagnosed while outside the state.
Statewide, to date, there have been 26,906 people who have tested positive for COVID-19.
The Big Island on Tuesday had a 0.4% test positivity rate, below the statewide rate of 1%.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 40 cases or an average of 2.1 cases per day. Most of the cases have been in West Hawaii with the North Kona area reporting 14 in the past 14 days.
Statewide, 45 people were hospitalized Tuesday, none of whom were receiving care on the Big Island. To date, 2,149 people have required hospitalization, including 114 on the Big Island.
No new coronavirus-related deaths was reported Tuesday by the state. Of the 426 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 340 were on Oahu, 29 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
The Big Island’s COVID-19 fatality rate remained at 2.4% on Tuesday, above the statewide rate of 1.6%. No deaths have been reported on the Big Island this year.
