Police have charged a 31-year-old Naalehu man after a crime spree in Ka‘u.

A 46-year-old man told police on Wednesday, his truck was stolen at gunpoint in Pahala. Responding officers located the truck on Highway 11 near Whittington Beach Park.

The driver, whom police say was Grant Dacalio, resisted orders to stop and sped away. A short time later, police dispatch received a 911 call about a disturbance at a home in that general area. According to police, arriving officers witnessed Dacalio dragging an 80-year-old woman into a home and determined Dacalio had threatened the homeowner with a knife.

After a short standoff, Dacalio surrendered to police without further incident.

Dacalio was charged on Friday with first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, auto theft, third-degree assault, two counts of kidnapping and three counts of first degree terroristic threatening. It was also determined that Dacalio is wanted in Idaho for violating parole.

Dacalio is scheduled to make his initial appearance Monday in Kona District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $216,000 bail.
