John C. Williams, 80, of Gardnerville, Nev., formerly of Pahoa, died March 11 in Gardnerville. Born in Oakland, Calif., he was formerly program director for the county’s Honokaa sports complex, performed with Hilo Community Players, did stand-up comedy in Hilo and Kona, played for Hamakua team in kupuna softball League, competed in weightlifting, published 10 books, including “The Death of Russell City” and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He moved to Nevada in 2018 after losing his home to the Kilauea eruption. Survived by wife, Roni L. Williams; mother-in-law, Dolores Nakamoto; nieces, nephews and in-laws.
